workshops + coaching | Amy Malkoff

I'm available for vocal harmony and melody workshops, for vocal arranging, for group performance and/or competition coaching, and for harmony writing or consultation. I also have an extensive list of accomplished colleagues and resources available to collaborate with me to get the best result for your performance or writing. I can appear alone or with others.

In addition to serving as bandleader and performer, for several years I've been a certified judge with the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) and the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA), the organization on which the Pitch Perfect movies were based, and 3 times, I had the honor of serving as judge at the international finals at Lincoln Center. I have also judged for NCHSA, The National Championship of High School A Cappella. In these competitions, the judges closely assess the competitors' intonation, arrangements, tuning and performance, among other things. I have also taught workshops and masterclasses at the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival (LA-AF), SheSings (OR and CA), AcappellaFest (Chicago), VoCAL Nation (NYC), The National A Cappella Convention (NACC), and Haunted Harmonies, among other events. I have served on the board and staff of the Women's A Cappella Association (WACA), as the Marketing Director for the A Cappella Education Association, and on the production team for the BOSS (Boston Sings) Festival. I taught vocals and harmony at the 2014 Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, NC.

I have run workshops on arranging, lyrics, women in a cappella, writing harmony, social media and marketing, and performing. These workshops are hands-on, energetic, and aim to leave the participants energized and inspired. Learn to write harmonies that enhance your melody but don't detract, and to perform them with accuracy. I also run masterclasses, workshop groups for competition, and moderate panel discussions.

TESTIMONIALS

"Thank you for all of your help this weekend at AcappellaFest! Our individualized masterclass with you and Brian was awesome! We plan on using everything that you told us in order to make our group more successful in the future. It was great to get critical feedback from professionals. We sounded, looked and felt better immediately. In addition, a few of us attended your social media class and learned a lot about improving our social media presence."

"Amy is absolutely one of my favorite judges. She's experienced, she's reliable, and she's sincerely dedicated to helping our ensembles to fine-tune their performances. Amy loves what she does, and it shows -- not just in the big smile on her face but in the sincerity of her coaching."

"Amy has brought her years of experience and keen ear to the panel of judges for Harmony Sweepstakes. She is professional, trust-worthy and an enthusiastic individual to work with. Being able to rely on her services the last few years has been an enormous stress relief and an even bigger pleasure."
Jaclyn Chisholm

Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes

"Amy is an incredible inspiration to student singers in particular, both by way of her own success and because of her keen understanding of a wide variety of the challenges that young vocalists face in developing their instruments and their own style. She is an excellent educator, adjudicator and vocal consultant; she's able to express criticisms and guidance in ways that help yield noticeable and measurable results. She has been judging the ICCA competition for a great many years, and each season, we hear from groups who are grateful for her feedback and encouragement. I would recommend her as a vocal educator or coach to any individual or group looking to bring out their best."
